TERMINAL PHOTOGRAPHY INDEX OLD NAKED PHOTO ALBUM PAGE: - SO FAR, HERSTMONCEUX GOOD PAGE

This page has some pictures taken on August Bank Holiday Monday in 2003 at Herstmonceux Castle and Eastbourne. I had a bloody good day out. With real blood.

• What do you mean by 'There's a Pie on my helmet'? A mob (I suspect this is the correct collective noun for re-enactors) emulate a rout of Knights (I'm told).
• As the mêlée is about to kick-off, a knight puts a beady eye out. And once the vicious, bloody fight is underway, he does the same again.
• An Englishman's home is his castle (subject to status) but this one's really more of a fortified manor house. It has a moat and some lovely gardens.
• Do tin soldiers have a rattling good time? Is that camcorder really historically accurate? And if you think that's bad, the bloke to his right is trying to get Sky!
• Joust the facts mam, joust the facts. One of the high-points of the day! The thump of hoof on earth and the clatter of lance on steel is most impressive.
• The gang's all here! From left to right: Cas, John, Ewa (pronounced like Heather without the H) and Gavin. Plus some random bloke in the background.
• Sadness and salt spray. Neon and nihilism. Fish and chips. Broken glass and bingo. Flip-flops, shells and seagulls. The British seaside means a lot to me.
• Gavin and Ewa frolic (rather gently) in the surf, with the pier in the background...
• The light on my tooth is genuine and has not been added digitally! This picture also appears on my Portraits page.
• I did have a lovely time! Eastbourne seems full of these sorts of items, invoking childhood memories of disappointingly rocky beaches.
• There's only one way to avoid getting old. Die young. These seats should be filled with old people! What's happened? That nice Bob Monkhouse is on the TV...
