From 1998 and 2000:
• Those legs are my own. In 2000 I stayed a week in Abergavenny. I visited Puzzlewood, which is a kind of maze in an amazing, prehistoric looking woodland.
• Lake Vyrummmm. I spent a lovely weekend here courtesy of the company I worked for at the time.
This is the view out of our bedroom window. This is also a view used in television adverts by the Welsh Tourist Board to lour folks to visit.
• Portmeirion is the famous 'Village' from the 60's cult TV series The Prisoner.
• I visited Portmeirion it in the autumn of 1998 and found it to be an enchanting spot full of whimsy and invention.
• The atmosphere was just as I had imagined it to be. If you're ever at this corner of the world, I urge you to visit this unique place and linger a moment at the lighthouse, thinking of me. :-)
From September 18-19 2004:
• Full of beans at the bottom. Boo (the dog) fails to join in.
• Peter with a bloody big hill beyond. Actually Snowdon (we went up the Pyg Track and came down the Miners Track) is a kitten next to Ben Nevis.
• Man of the Mountains. A big climb ahead of me, but I was not afraid.
• Half way up Snowdon I stopped to take this picture. It wasn't to catch my breath, honest. Note the distant wind farm.
• Peter and Boo at the top of Snowdon. Enjoying the view as well as the rest.
• Peter calls his dad. "Top of the World Pa!"
• I strike a pose at the top. I felt better than I looked. Fortunately.
• Fisherman's Walk Geocache takes you along this river south of Snowdon. A really nice stroll/clamber...
• ...which leads to this cave. Sadly I didn't have a torch with me so I couldn't explore very far.
• The folly near Clough Williams-Ellis' house. A really nice surprise to find while geocaching.
• One of the iconic images of Port Meirion - Atlas. I was very pleased I made the effort to revisit this place towards the end of a long weekend.
• A picture of the village. A lovely place that wasn't too busy when I visited.
• Standing outside 'the green dome' which was the home of all 17 Number Twos in The Prisoner.
• Reminding me of the episode called 'Many Happy Returns, here's a shot of the village 'empty'.
• A view from the village. The tide was in and it was very lovely.
• The Village. You can see why Clough Williams-Ellis wanted to build here - It's a beautiful spot.
• Taking a moment to enjoy the square. You can see the dome on the hill beyond me.
• Here I am with a hero of mine. Nice bloke that Nelson.
• "I am not a free man, I am a number! Oh fudge." Being in Port Meirion brought out my inner rebel.
• As seen in House of the Rising Sun, this golden Buddha below the dome holds a tiny flower.
• View from the lighthouse. I have fond memories of this view.
• Standing on the Lighthouse. I love(d) this place!
Welsh video clips:
High atop Snowdon I apologies for my hat.
At Portmeirion, I do my [Prisoner] impression.
As above, but a smaller .wmv file version.
Prisoner inspired Geocache:
I AM NOT A NUMBER, I AM A FREE MAN! (Bucks). Set with Ben Pid
Prisoner inspired film:
See where The Adam and Joe Show meets The Prisoner: The Prisonbear
'PM2006' event in Portmeirion - August 13th 2006: [More info about this event on my Prisonbear page]
• Me on the beach. It was low tide around 9am, so I was able to take some photos and video in front of the village.
• The village without me, from the beach. I suppose this is a 'classic' view of Portmeirion. Would have been better on a sunny day.
• Robert Fairclough (left) speaks to MC Dave Jones about his books about The Prisoner. Interesting stuff!
• Dave Jones (right) chatted to Robert Monks, who was a cameraman on the series. Really riveting stuff listening to him talk.
• Jane Merrow, who played Alison, talking to Dave Jones too. Her memories of the series, and talk about her wider career were fascinating. Very nice lady too!
• Dave Jones and Rick Davy auction some items off for the Hope House children's hospice charity. The 2005 event made over £1000.
• David Mackenzie's Lego models of The Village buildings and other Prisoner locations/vehicles were very interesting.
• The attention to detail was amazing. Lego isn't the best of modelling materials, but David had done a grand job with it.
• There was always a good crowd around David's display. He also donated a Lego Lotus 7 to the raffle, which was kind of him.
• The new(ish) plaque about The Prisoner above the door to No.6's House/The Prisoner Shop.
• My good self at the fake lighthouse This is a remote spot at Portmeirion, and one of my favourites.
• Relaxing on the 'Stone Boat' which is in front of the main Hotel building.
• The Campanile, or clock tower, was one of the first buildings put up on the Portmeirion site in the 1920's.
• The clock tower from another angle. I think this is one of the most striking buildings in the village.
• Jane Merrow poses on the Gloriette at the end of the Piazza.
• I caught a quick picture with her. I also admitted I'd always regarded her as 'top Priz totty', which was well received.
• More Jane Merrow. Golden Globe nominated Jane acted in many TV shows of the 60's and 70's, as well as in several Hollywood films.
• View of the green dome from the town hall. Or rather a view of the Pantheon from the Hercules Hall.
• Curly in No.6 guise outside 6's house in Portmeirion. Filming for a third episode of The Prisonbear.
• Curly outside the lighthouse while filming for The Prisonbear Episode III - The Dance of the Ted. [More Bears]
Video: Watching The Prisonbear. 7 second, 1.03Mb Mpg file. Both Revival and Stalemate were shown in 'The Town Hall' building during PM2006.
February 2007 holiday in Portmeirion. I stayed in Chantry with some friends. Nice.
